| Still alive. |
[Feb. 26th, 2009|08:12 pm] |
So, promised explanations have not materialized. This is due mostly to a ridiculous lack of time and brainpower. And sanity.
I wish there was as much humor in that last sentence as is normal for me.
So, this post is...well, to be honest, mostly because a couple of passing comments from friends got me doing some mental arithmetic and I realized that...holy shit. It's been a year since things stopped being normal for me. And the last six months have been the worst of my life.
It's been a nonstop rollercoaster, and dear gods I need OFF already. I'll attempt to elaborate when I have more time and less exhaustion, but given my track record of late...yeah. Let's hope it's sometime this year.

| Bit late, but... |
[Dec. 3rd, 2008|09:12 pm] |
...well. Still alive.
Suffice it to say there's been reasons I haven't been able to say that before. It's...been a while. A lot's happened.
Saying that's it's been a bit rough for me lately is...wholly understating things. We'll see if I can manage more coherent later.

I have been informed that it is a very good idea to keep letting you guys know I'm not dead. ^^6 If you want to know how my life's been going...well. Um. Sadly enough, this pretty much covers most of the last couple months.

Not dead yet. Um. Quite.
Last few weeks have been pretty much made of spectacular failure, though. Updates will probably resume at some point after I track down where the hell my competence appears to have gotten to.
...come to think of it, yes, the suck has in fact involved plumbing. And bureaucracy. Sometimes at the same time. I just don't have good luck with those, it seems...

| Sometimes you just need an emotional meltdown. |
[Apr. 22nd, 2008|04:22 pm] |
Why yes, I /do/ apparently fail at the internet.
See, first of all? My life apparently decided to forgo the blunt objects and went for the rake. If you're familiar with the original version of Journey to the West, you may actually have a sense of what I'm talking about.
And then?
Then there was metaphorical exploding of plumbing, and then non-metaphorical plumbing that thankfully stopped short of exploding, and then...
Well. If you've never had a day - or week - that makes you envision the inside of your skull getting scraped out with an ice cream scoop, you are very lucky and for the love of cheese try to keep it that way. Trust me on this.
All things considered, I was probably about due for an emotional meltdown. And one duly hit this afternoon. It was quite a, well, civilized one, really. Took about fifteen minutes, during which I remember thinking that it was utterly irrational and that my levels of /something/ were probably all screwy, and then it was done. Suspect I've been significantly more on-kilter since, since I almost forgot it'd happened at all. Hopefully this'll mean I won't need another one anytime soon.
So, um...yeah. My backlog is a thing of terror and I'm afraid to so much as glance at it.
But this has been rendered less of a problem by the finding of this:
Denizens of Darkness, Harbringers of Light
Also? Well, first, if you're not reading Girl Genius, you /should/ be. Took me a ridiculously long time to figure out just /why/ those Jager-grins looked so oddly...familiar. Anyway. The latest couple arcs? The bunnies have declared the fifth frame of this page especially to be made of win and awesome. They have also declared that Gil is getting /kept/, that the poor guy just doesn't catch a break, and that Zeetha is evil and they love her. I'm inclined to agree.
But I also bring this up because Vathara's put up a crossover challenge that, while perhaps not /quite/ on the level of Jagers meeting Feegles, is still something I would absolutely want to see the results of anyone actually writing up...

| Light at the end of the tunnel? |
[Feb. 29th, 2008|11:11 pm] |
First of all, Happy Leap Year!
So, yeah. Still not being much in evidence. Mostly because have not been having a good week. For that matter, if even if this hasn't quite been the month from hell, it's definitely in the running for it.
But today's been possibly the first completely decent day in a while. This has helped. We'll see how it then goes.
- - - - - Quote of the Day: "There is after all something called 'Nerima-deduction'. It follows an easy enough rule. Take all the facts, throw away everything that's even remotely probable, and what you're left with, especially if it appears completely stupid, is the truth." |

| Still aten't dead. I think. |
[Feb. 10th, 2008|06:12 pm] |
There may possibly have been a brief period last month when I had time to breathe. Then my life evidently found the baseball bat again, and, well. Nothing particularly interesting or angst-provoking, just a lot of stuff /not letting up/.
But gorgeous sunset tonight, with a cat's-grin moon, and that made me feel better, even though or perhaps because it made me realize this was perhaps the first time I'd had the opportunity to see either so far this year. (Trust me. When your life's got the baseball bat, you take the mood lifters anywhere you can get them.) So. I still fail at entertaining, and the thought of my backlog makes me positively twitch. Should you be in dire need of entertainment, I'd suggest you head to Waiter Rant instead. Because the man can most certainly write.

| Gleh. |
[Dec. 27th, 2007|07:55 pm] |
So, a belated Merry Christmas, Happy Agnostica, and all those other festive winter holidays that I am not up to keeping track of at the moment.
You see, my life for the past few weeks...or, well, to be honest, much of the year...has been much like getting repeatedly hit in the head with rocks. Admittedly, a few of the more recent ones have been very nice and impressively shiny, but that doesn't make them any better for the function of my poor brain.
(This, incidentally, was not one of the shiny ones.)
So, if you've wondered why I've appeared to have pretty much fallen off the net, let alone fandom...well, there's a good part of your answer.
I would promise to try and get started on my backlog, but, well, last few times I had that intent didn't really get me anywhere. It does not help that my backlog is terrifying and massive. It has bits that date back to July and is pretty much solid since August. To be honest, I think that trying to get through the many hundred messages might be best left for a time when I'm in a sufficiently stable mental state that the thought does not give me the urge to curl up under the table and whimper.
...and after that, I get to go through allll the stuff on LJ I haven't been keeping up on. Eheh. Eheheheheh.
I'll just be under the table now.

[Dec. 5th, 2007|11:55 pm] |
Yep, my life is still doing its utmost to drive me to stimulants stronger than ridiculously-sweetened herbal tea. Sorry, gonna be a bit longer before I can manage anything entertaining myself. So - you guessed it - more shinies. Finder's credit to ocianne for these first four.
Why the Yu-Gi-Oh Characters Hate Christmas Lovely crackvid. The 7th, 6th, and 3rd verses especially are spectacularly fitting.
Korean Freestyle Slalom Rollerblading Because it's just fun to watch. Give it a minute to get through the intro.
Champion Cardstacker There are houses of cards. And then there is this.
guitar I did not know you could /do/ that with Pachelbel. This one makes me smile.
Amadeus Rock This is just impressive, especially if you've ever actually tried to play that piece of Mozart's.
Pachelbel Rant Speaking of Pachelbel...
Beatboxing flute inspector gadget remix ...and nonstandard music...
Manualist plays rockin around the xmas tree on his hands! ...and stuff I was not aware you could do...
Two Talking Cats If you haven't had your overdose of cute for the day. Might also want to check out the 'translation' linked in the description, nicely done dub job.
Cat in the Bottle Because it is amusing. And a rather impressive cat.
- - - - - Quote of the Day: "A girl I work with busted out laughing yesterday on a call (with the customer on mute). She said this guy told her the number for Customer Care should be '666' instead of our regular 3 digit number. Someone else piped in that '666' is the direct line to a supervisor." |

| Continued Frazzle |
[Nov. 9th, 2007|03:21 pm] |
Right. Unless I manage to get more sleep and work done and so unfrazzle my brain, it doesn't look like I'm going to be up to much more else at the moment.
Quite frankly, there's likely two reasons I'm anywhere near hailing distance of sanity right now.
First was happening past Making Money in a bookstore. And, well, frankly, I'm pretty sure there's something hardwired that will not let me walk past a new Pratchett without at least taking a look at it. I came to about three hours later of hysterical giggling interspersed periodically with "oh /no/..." and "oh, the poor bastard." There may have been some cackling too, as well as some glee at the fluidic economic modeler making it into a Pratchett work. And I felt a bit less like a used dishtowel. Nothing quite like seeing a lovely specimen of someone having a far worse week to cheer you up.
Second was having a good friend plonk me on a nice couch with a bowl of mango sorbet and the first four issues of Fables and an injunction not to leave until both were finished. Some sort of suitable thanks and retribution for this is going to have to be wreaked.
In the meantime? Have some more shinies.
Mechanical Birds Apparently real and completely nonelectronic.
Rockfish Very cool and extremely well-done little sci-fi adventure.
Icarus Short steampunk rendition of the myth.
Insight Gentle, philosophical and frankly adorable little animated story.
The Mysterious Geographical Explorations of Jasper Morello Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Beautifully done short film. A world of airships and floating islands and threatening plague, and the finding of monsters of more than one kind.
And if you still have more time to kill, there's always Chat Noir. Here, kitty kitty...

| And again. |
[Nov. 7th, 2007|07:11 pm] |
I was evidently a tad overoptimistic last post about end of the fall off the 'net. My life apparently got ahold of a baseball bat and thought it would be great fun to beat me over the head with it. Repeatedly. ...It's been a bit of a rough few weeks. Or, well, six months, come to think.
At any rate, should this not be another fit of overoptimism, I may at some point in the foreseeable future manage to actually start on my recreational backlog. As in all the backed up reading and responding that I haven't done. (If this doesn't happen, then my life got ahold of the baseball bat again. Sorry.)
The bunnies, however, have evidently been in fine form recently.
Since there is a distinctly nonzero probability that I will in fact fall off the internet again after this whether I intend to or not, I might as well at least leave a few shinies I've found to provide entertainment in the interim:
How to Cope With Death Creepy, rather amusing, and very cool little animated feature.
Kiwi! Adorable, somewhat philosophical, and packing-of-emotional-punch animated story. Do Penguins Fly? ...it's got penguins in. Isn't that enough?
Animator vs. Animation This is just amusing. As is the sequel: Animator vs. Animation 2
Tyger Mesmerizing bit of magic and surreality and plenty of shiny.
Catch Me if You Can, Tantei-San MK AMV which has /absolutely no right/ to work as well as it does.
DC Hall Om Mig DC AMV. The mere choice of music of music here gives this some pretty high expectations to fill, and it does a remarkably good job. Also especially given said choice, if you can avoid snickering madly at the first fifteen seconds, you're stronger than I am.

| Regarding latest fall off of the net |
[Sep. 2nd, 2007|09:27 pm] |
It's been a while since my last extended visit to the Land of Minimal Computer Access and Even Less Internet.
Upon consideration, I most definitely haven't missed the place.
As for the rest of it...well. Any rate. It is very, /very/ good to be back, though somewhat unsurprisingly the plotbunnies are in full stress-crash - haven't seen hide or hair of 'em for a fair while. Now all I have to do is get through the huge pile of assorted flavors of backlog. *eyes it warily* Anyone got a spare suit of armor? Or possibly a flamethrower?

| Current mutterings |
[Jul. 18th, 2007|07:30 pm] |
My crackbunnies are apparently not only in perfect working order but highly enthusiastic. Now, if only I could corral a majority of bunnies onto the same project to /write/ something for it, that'd be nice. Especially if it's one of those permanently-stalled ones that have been languishing forever.
On a more cheerful note, bunnies have found another vid they love. Especially the /song/. Sans Souci

| Minor muttering |
[Jul. 14th, 2007|11:27 pm] |
You know it's been a bad day when the screaming inside your head gives you a migraine.
Also, it just bloody well figures that Yahoo /finally/ gets the chat-within-mail thing integrated and functioning /after/ I've already switched over to Gmail.
- - - - - Quote of the Day: "Dirt is heavy. Water is heavy. Dirt soaked with water is heavy. Water full of dirt is heavy. I have carried all of those things in the past hour. I won't mention what is smelly, what is thorny, what harbors biting insects, and what brings out a rash wherever it touches skin. But I have carried all of those today, as well. I feel like sinking to the bottom of the tub and staying there until morning. By the way, I start work at seven tomorrow, too." |
|
|
| It's all the bunnies' fault. |
[Jul. 11th, 2007|11:07 pm] |
While this vid is /very/ nicely done, it's the song that the bunnies /really/ glomped.
They liked it so much, in fact, that, rather than merely insisting an MK vid needed to be done to it, they started playing their own behind my eyes. Which...was a rather odd experience, and probably would have unnerved me a lot more if I hadn't been rather more preoccupied with the shiny at the time. Especially since some of it doesn't /exist/ in official animation. Which...I really can't help feeling a bit wistful about...
Speaking of bunny-supplied images, the bunnies have maintained for some time that Rincewind, Ryoga, and Roronoa Zoro really /have/ to all know each other, at least by sight. Probably at least seen Zaraki and Yachiru around at times, too. ...Made the mistake of mentioning such to the Unrepentant Provoker and Co-Conspirator, who promptly threw in Doctor Who and gleefully labeled them the Lost Boys.
- - - - - Quote of the Day: "Is it really so wrong to want to know why all of my friends have suddenly run off to join some dimension-hopping cult of black-robed lunatics?!" |

| Current bunny thoughts, MK edition |
[Jul. 7th, 2007|10:27 pm] |
Okay. Someone /needs/ to do a good Kaitou Kid AMV to this song.
Also, someone /really/ needs to help me convince the bunnies that Kaito is /not/ a Spark. Because starting on that path with DC canon would just be a Bad Idea.
It was also recently pointed out to me that we really haven't seen much in the MK fandom with Kid finding a magical gem that /isn't/ Pandora. Anyone feel like helping remedy this? (Some more, in some cases?) *grins*
- - - - - Link of the Day: "Any rules against it?" |

|
| Personal canon |
[Jul. 2nd, 2007|11:16 pm] |
When the question came up a month or two ago, I was mildly surprised to find I didn't really /have/ any personal canon for the characters I work with. Nothing especially so, anyway.
I really should have known the bunnies would take that as a challenge. It's only been a few weeks since, and yet the bunnies have been adding stuff to the MK datafile like /crazy/.
For example.
Finally got around to watching the Crystal Mother OAV. And while discussing it with the usual suspects, one of the points I happened to bring up was that hey, it really is true that in it, they refer to the guy who's pretty clearly called Snake in the manga as Jackal. While we were wondering why, my bunnies, presenting depth of embedding in concrete as evidence, snickered that maybe they meant to call him 'Coyote' instead and got a mistranslation.
...Co-conspirator's bunnies promptly posited the existence of a BO operative named Coyote, "whose sole purpose is to get mangled in interesting ways while attempting to take Kid out."
...My bunnies /grinned/.
So. Anyone want to borrow the guy? Because we all love seeing Org members suffer...

| Simply for the record. |
[Jul. 1st, 2007|10:07 pm] |
So, it is in fact possible for blunt trauma to cause bleeding from under the nail.
It is also not a recommended experience.
Neither are relative-induced worry episodes of the medical variety, but that's another issue.
On another note, there is going to be appropriate retribution for getting pointed toward this just as soon as I can figure out what that would be. Bunnies fallen in love with the cape allll over again. ...also, having to work very hard to convince them that no, they do /not/ need to introduce him to Alucard. Really.
