Light at the end of the tunnel? [Feb. 29th, 2008|11:11 pm]
First of all, Happy Leap Year!

So, yeah. Still not being much in evidence. Mostly because have not been having a good week. For that matter, if even if this hasn't quite been the month from hell, it's definitely in the running for it.

But today's been possibly the first completely decent day in a while. This has helped. We'll see how it then goes.

Quote of the Day: "There is after all something called 'Nerima-deduction'. It follows an easy enough rule. Take all the facts, throw away everything that's even remotely probable, and what you're left with, especially if it appears completely stupid, is the truth."

Still aten't dead. I think. [Feb. 10th, 2008|06:12 pm]
There may possibly have been a brief period last month when I had time to breathe.
Then my life evidently found the baseball bat again, and, well. Nothing particularly interesting or angst-provoking, just a lot of stuff /not letting up/.

But gorgeous sunset tonight, with a cat's-grin moon, and that made me feel better, even though or perhaps because it made me realize this was perhaps the first time I'd had the opportunity to see either so far this year.
(Trust me. When your life's got the baseball bat, you take the mood lifters anywhere you can get them.)
So. I still fail at entertaining, and the thought of my backlog makes me positively twitch.
Should you be in dire need of entertainment, I'd suggest you head to Waiter Rant instead. Because the man can most certainly write.

Quotes of the Day:  "Officer, I was making cherries jubilee when it all went horribly wrong."
"Your honor, the chef's knife throwing demonstration didn't work out as planned."
"I don't know what happened! I just gave the man his check! Call 911!"

And again. [Nov. 7th, 2007|07:11 pm]

I was evidently a tad overoptimistic last post about end of the fall off the 'net. My life apparently got ahold of a baseball bat and thought it would be great fun to beat me over the head with it. Repeatedly.
...It's been a bit of a rough few weeks. Or, well, six months, come to think.

At any rate, should this not be another fit of overoptimism, I may at some point in the foreseeable future manage to actually start on my recreational backlog. As in all the backed up reading and responding that I haven't done. (If this doesn't happen, then my life got ahold of the baseball bat again. Sorry.)

The bunnies, however, have evidently been in fine form recently.

Since there is a distinctly nonzero probability that I will in fact fall off the internet again after this whether I intend to or not, I might as well at least leave a few shinies I've found to provide entertainment in the interim:

How to Cope With Death
Creepy, rather amusing, and very cool little animated feature.

Adorable, somewhat philosophical, and packing-of-emotional-punch animated story.

Do Penguins Fly?
...it's got penguins in. Isn't that enough?

Animator vs. Animation
This is just amusing. As is the sequel:
Animator vs. Animation 2

Mesmerizing bit of magic and surreality and plenty of shiny.

Fic: Not a Good Day [May. 19th, 2007|09:26 am]
[Tags|, , ]

So. Couple of friends got me to go see Underworld with them.

My brain being, well, it, this somehow resulted in a dream that produced the imagefic below. 500 words of unhappy Phantom Thief:

Um. Yeah.
Though thinking about it now that I'm awake...I can't help but wonder if this subconsciously had something to do with it as well...

ARRRRRGH. [Apr. 14th, 2007|02:31 pm]

It just bloody well figures. I was /just/ thinking how it'd been entirely too long since I backed up most of my files. So naturally, my computer chooses this morning to commit suicide on me. Quite thoroughly.

So. There's an awful lot of stuff I have therefore lost, including the meager progress and notes I was trying to use to get myself back into writing. It also means that my time and opportunity to respond to net stuff is likely to be severely limited.

I'm sure you can imagine my sentiments regarding all this.

Quiz: DICD [Mar. 31st, 2007|06:17 am]

...y'know, this would explain a lot.

Dissociative Imaginative Characterization Disorder Diagnosis Test
You answered "yes" to 32 of 39 questions, with a total value of 35 points out of 42, making you 16.7% dicd pure (83.3% dicd corrupt).
According to the scoring guide, your dicd experience level is:
Seriously DICD: it might be important to remember that those people in your head aren’t actually real. Remember RL? Interacting with real people is occasionally beneficial. In any case, you can’t let the characters forget who’s in charge, or they’ll walk all over you. Maintain your authority, or you’ll never have any peace!

When you're having One of Those Days... [Mar. 22nd, 2007|03:47 pm]
Have been getting reacquainted recently with the sort of day that makes you feel like your brain's been left in a cement mixer and set to churn for fifteen hours. Also? When you've been avoiding caffeine for a while, a surprisingly small amount will set you twitching.

Even one of Those Days, however, can be improved by these. Explody fountains, cool music, evidence of far too much free time, and just a bit of mad science - what's not to like?
Mentos + Coke 1 - Fountains
Mentos + Coke 2 - Domino effect

If that's not enough, you can always take comfort in the knowledge that someone at Customers Suck! has had a worse day than you. Possibly even in comic form.

Happy Pi Day!

Appropriately enough, it's also Einstein's birthday.

Tactical Error [Mar. 7th, 2007|08:51 pm]
I don't remember what whim sent me passing by Freearcade.com for the first time in years. All I know is that in retrospect it was a rather ill-advised decision to revisit Rogue. I'd evidently forgotten how addictive it is.

As it happens, Dungeondweller's collected every version of the game they could find for anyone who wants to download them. And having a save function really makes a big difference. Turns out that - at least some versions - there really /is/ an Amulet of Yendor. Provided you don't get roasted by a dragon on your way to pick it up...

Fic: 'Until the Horizon' missing-scene drabbles [Mar. 4th, 2007|03:47 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Finally went back and looked over Until the Horizon, and have concluded that it is in fact pretty much as I want it to be. I'm actually quite satisfied with the later chapters, slightly to my surprise, and don't think I'm going to add anything, aside from possibly smoothing out that slightly jarring early scene transition. No new scenes, anyway.

But...there were a couple of plotbunnies that occurred to me while I was writing it that I just couldn't fit in, but liked too much to just leave them forgotten. For one thing, they've got Jack in them.
So I finally got around to writing them up as proper drabbles. Both are set during the battle in chapter four.
